Balanced - Calculation Success at the Edge with iPads

Objective:

USAF Special Operations Command (“AFSOC”) was leveraging an aging Excel file to generate weight and balance calculations for their missions. They needed a secure mobile app to perform weight and balance calculations, at the Edge, where maintainers and load masters work. Together under the Monkton MATTER IDIQ, we built Balanced for the iPad.

Solution:

Monkton delivered an app that marks the first time an organization has used AWS GitOps to execute the DevSecOps Playbook Reference Architecture for mobility services. Balanced leveraged AWS to commoditize the pricing of the Reference Architecture as an implementation.

The Balanced app offers a streamlined process for DoD load masters to make payload calculations on the Apple iPad, and is the first cloud native implementation of the DoD DevSecOps Playbook Reference Architecture to build secure mobile apps.

Challenges Solved:

  • Established a secure cloud infrastructure

  • Implemented an agile and Edge-based mindset

  • Empowered hands-free infrastructure management

Outcomes:

DevSecOps

  • First of its kind mobile app that leverages AWS GitOps to execute the DevSecOps Playbook Reference Architecture for mobility services

Streamlined calculations

  • Math made easy for DoD load masters when making payload calculations on iPads

Trusted tools for user needs

  • Monkton worked directly with AFSOC Load Masters to design and build the NSA NIAP compliant Balanced app for cloud-based mobility
